I opened this*.stl file using Inventor Professional and saved it as *dwg file because I couldn't open it directly as *.stl files using AutoCad Mechanical 2015. I have both Inventor Professional 2015 and AutoCad Me Surfaces are really a pain to deal with in Inventor because there's no way to force Inventor to mesh the extremes or outer boundaries. If you have any faces in a file that intersect with themselves the stitch command will fail. Luckily, if you try to "heal" or repair the stitch it will usually highlight the failed portions for you.
